Tips on Building Basements
- Make it a cast-in-place concrete wall basement.
- Use a minimum of 8" of washed gravel under the slab.
- Use both exterior and interior drain tile and cover with a minimum of 20"
of washed stone or gravel.
- Waterproof with TUFF-N-DRI guaranteed dry basement waterproofing. Accept
no substitutes.
- Make a full basement if possible. You will need the room.
- Always use a high volume, high quality dehumidifier. All basements are cool
and the temperature variation on very hot days could cause dampness problems.
- If a sump pump is needed, provide a back up in case there is a power outage
during a storm. Provide a water pressure or a battery-powered pump just in
case.
- Make sure the grade slopes away and is not too high on the basement wall.
- Bring in outside light by using windows and window wells.
